KBF Ft. Gibson Recap: Metcalf wins on Home Turf

Memorial Day has come to a close and so has Kayak Bass Fishing's South Central Region event at Ft. Gibson. This event brought anglers from Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, Texas, and the host state of Oklahoma despite high water and holiday boaters. Nevertheless, great anglers always find fish to catch and prize money still gets passed out. OKA angler Chris Metcalf came away with the top prize of $1,166 getting the win by .25" over fellow Okie Jason Ray.

Chris Metcalf originally from Texas grew up fishing Lake Murvaul near Gary City. Chris moved to Oklahoma at the age of 18 and fishing was put on hold for a short period. After making a few new friends, Metcalf was introduced to Ft. Gibson and his love for fishing was rekindled. Metcalf fishes FTG along with several other lakes in the Tulsa area.

As tournament day approached Chris watched the water level and weather constantly. Without prefishing Chris decided to fish a spot that he has the most confidence in which turned out to pay off in a big way. Chris fished a solid late Spring pattern, "1/2 oz war eagle spinnerbait and a 1/2 oz V&M flippin jig found a streatch of bank that had good amount of fish on it that was lined with buck brush....working that spinnerbait in the lanes of the bushes for the big bites and flipping the jig in the heart of the bush. Had my limit by 8 o clock." By winning this event Chris was able to qualify for the 2021 KBF National Championship, 2020 Trail Series Championship and the 2021 TENvitational.

Since the OKA partnered with the KBF, anglers throughout the state have been able to quailfy for the KBF National Championship along with other high-level KBF events. "Having OKA anglers qualify for big time events and getting trail series events on our home lakes is a great feather in our cap and advantage for our OK anglers." says OKA president Avery Metcalf. Hope to see everyone out there on the water and tight lines!

OKA Event # 2 Recap: Barham wins at the end

OKA event #2 has concluded and as always the weather and fishing does its best to not cooperate. Anglers experienced low temperatures, intense fog, high winds, muddy water, and post cold front bass. However, top anglers always find a way to catch em' and put a 5-fish limit together. Out of 66 anglers only 116 bass were scored. Moreover, Only 9 anglers were able to fill the limit of 5 bass. As the saying goes, its called fishing and not catching for a reason. Nevertheless, someone always rises to the top to cash out the top payout.  Angler Chance Barham was born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma and has been fishing since he could walk. Barham has only been kayak fishing for the last year when he discovered Greg Blanchard's  kayak fishing channel on Youtube. Barham fished at Hominy Lake and used a green pumpkin Senko with the tip dipped in garlic chartreuse and dead-sticked it all day. At 1:40PM, Barham sat in 11th place on tourneyx and wanted to throw in the towel. Soon after 1...
