While Oklahoma enters phase 2 of reopening the state economy the OKA and kayak anglers alike, continue to power through the rain, wind and tournament schedule. As the OKA is a Kayak Bass Fishing affiliate trail it is only fitting that the OKA and its anglers get to have a high level kayak fishing derby in our back yard. This event held at lake Ft. Gibson in eastern, Oklahoma will be a huge playing field that will bring anglers from Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, Texas, Louisiana and of course the Sooner state. As anglers focus their eyes on Ft. Gibson Lake each angler must have the following credentials to fish this event: A valid Oklahoma fishing license, a current 2020 KBF membership, and of course the entry fee paid before lines in.
As stated earlier the OKA is a Kayak Bass Fishing partner club this entails several perks throughout the tournament season. The first being able to qualify Oklahoma anglers for the KBF National Championship. Any KBF member who places in the top 3 of any OKA event will get a qualification to the KBFNC. Moreover, tournaments such as the South Central Trail Series can come to Oklahoma waters for our anglers at home and regionally to compete. Finally, the OKA and anglers are covered under the umbrella of KBF partner club insurance. KBF founder and President Chad Hoover has this to say about the recent partnership. "We are excited to partner with the Oklahoma Kayak Anglers for the first KBF Trail Series event in Oklahoma. Ft. Gibson is a premiere fishery and we cant wait to see the results when the top kayak anglers in the region converge there."
Ft. Gibson Dam Project was approved in the Flood Control Act of 1941 and construction began in 1942 but sat uncompleted for the next 4 years due to WWII. The project resumed in 1946 and Ft. Gibson Lake was completed in 1953 for flood control and hydroelectric power for the surrounding communities. Spanning 19,900 acres and 225 miles of shoreline and reaching through 3 counties, FTG has stained to clear water, with rocky banks and bluffs, large mid lake pools, docks, coves, bays, and a long river system with small flowing creeks. Coupled with this diversity of fishable water and post-spawn bass this event has the potential of a numbers game for a lake filled with 15" - 19" bass.
The OKA and its anglers are looking forward to hosting a great event with anglers from around the region.
