The Oklahoma Kayak Anglers will be hosting its 2020 Season Opener at Lake Murray in Ardmore, Oklahoma. Anglers will converge from all corners of the state to test their skills against prespawn bass as well as each other on one of Oklahoma's best bass fishing lakes. The tournament will be presented by Dobyns Rods an OKA sponsor. Angler of the Year points, Newcomer of the year points, cash prizes guaranteed for the top 3 finishers, Big Bass cash pot, as well as 3 Dobyns Rods will be on the line. Moreover, any current KBF member who places in the top 3 will receive 2021 KBF National Championship invites. Tournament Economics

Money does not grow on trees and tournament trails certainly do not raffle cash away either. With this predicament anglers have to weigh the costs of tournament weekend. Most anglers I talk to as well as myself save up a "fishing budget", during the off season and allocate funds per event. With a budget in mind anglers must choose from the following options: drive to the event tournament morning, camp in a primitive campsite or in an electric site with a camper or finally live high-on-the-hog and stay in a hotel or cabin. This article will list the costs and benefits as well as the trade-offs and drawbacks for tournament logistics, living accommodations, and economics. For local anglers the most cost efficient way to compete in a tournament is to drive to the boat ramp the morning of the event, I like to refer to this as "road lighting". We have all done this at some point or another in our tournament seasons. To road light one must go to bed at or around dinner t

Small Beginnings

I remember the feeling like it was yesterday, I had just bought a Heddon Zara Spook JR in the black and chrome color from the Claremore Walmart. I was 10 years old and spent all the money I had earned from picking up sticks in the yard before my dad mowed the grass. As we were on the drive home I couldn't wait to get it out of the package and tie it on. So there I was examining the lure on the truck ride home. As soon as we pulled in the drive way I was already out of the truck tying the same knot as I still tie today. I tied that bad boy on to my 6ft Shakespeare spin casting rod and ran down to the pond down below our property. Low and behold, I walked the dog slowly by a lay down and a small bass, must've been under 1 pound smashed the top-water,  I was beyond excited. Just like I had read what to do in Bassmaster Magazine had worked on this tiny little pond in Eastern Oklahoma. This story is not a unique one, we all remember that one place. The neighbors pond, grandpas pond,

Sooner Lake Recap: Aryan Sends Standings to the Moon

The Oklahoma Kayak Anglers have completed the first event of the 2020 season, the Fundraiser at Sooner Lake. The fundraising event was wildly successful with 40 anglers competing, raising a total of $1,600 for the 2020 season. As stated earlier items that will be purchased with these funds will be: tournament banners, trophies, lake tournament application fees, and the Angler of the Year prize of $1,000. The OKA is now able to raise the tournament payout from 65% to 80% which is outstanding and exciting news. Anglers who place in the top 3 of an event will now have the chance at good payouts for well attended events. The Fundraiser at Sooner Lake was not only a record breaking event on the fundraising side but for the fishing as well. OKA angler and current # 1 ranked Luke Aryan sent the competition a message by dropping 105.25" on the field. While the rest of the anglers were struggling to catch a keeper, Aryan set a new OKA single day stringer for a live event. Aryan caught
