This October, 17th and 18th 2020, the Oklahoma Kayak Anglers will be hosting the annual State Championship on giant Lake Texoma. Tourney Tag will be the title sponsor for the event supplying: Tourney Tag sleeves, coozies, and decals for every qualifying angler. The State Championship is the event that every competitive kayak angler in the state of Oklahoma wants to qualify for. The State championship is an invitational event hosted at the end of the season for 50 of Oklahoma's best kayak anglers. This will be second year the OKA has hosted a 2 - day championship event. This article will lay out several different paths to qualify for the OKA State Championship at Lake Texoma.
Thie first way an angler would qualify for the SC is to finish the trail season in the top 40 of the Angler of the Year standings. The final AOY standings will be released Sunday, September 20th the day after OKA Event # 8 at Lake Tenkiller Presented by Nabatak, Inc. After the final AOY standings are released and anglers are invited to the State Championship. Qualified anglers will then have one week to accept or decline their invitation. If an angler chooses to decline their invitation, additional invites will be given by rolling down the AOY standings to 50th place. Once 50th place is reached no more invitations will be given. For an angler to o the AOY standings, an anglers top 5 events will be scored with 4 trail events combined with only 1 online event, or just 5 trail events.
Anglers other options for qualification would be to place in the top 5 AOY of a kayak jackpot series. Current OKA affiliated jackpots are the Tulsa Kayak Bass- a - thon operated by William Vest and the OKC Kayak Fishing Club operated by Tom Hins and Jon Queen. These jackpot series will began in early April and run through August/September depending on turnout and weather. These jackpots are held on weekday evenings or occasionally on a non OKA tournament Saturday. These series have Facebook pages and event pages.

The awards will be he held at Kc Roadhouse Bar and Grill and which is located in the unique downtown district of Durant. Door prizes, AOY Trophy and cash prize, NOY Plaque and $500 gift card to Oklahoma Kayak, Dobyns Rods, and cash prizes to the winners will be given out at the awards. The OKA will also announce the qualifiers to the 2021 KBF National Championship and All-American Classic. If Kayak Fishing is your passion then your attendance is requested! Tight Lines!
