OKA Event #8 at Lake Tenkiller Presented by Nabatak Outdoors Preview

Well, just like that here we are at the end of the 2020 season for the Oklahoma Kayak Anglers. What a season it has been, the season has winded its way through covid, social unrest, cancellations, as well as lakes big and small but one thing has remained constant. That constant is the determination and camaraderie of OKA anglers. Anglers showed up in droves to compete with each other as friends and competitors alike. Moreover,  anglers set records in attendance, limits, fish caught, and overall payouts. With this said, there is one more regular season tournament that will set the stage for the coming postseason. OKA Event #8 at Lake Tenkiller Presented by Nabatak Outdoors Inc.    

Lake Tenkiller is a 12,900 acre reservoir in northeastern, Oklahoma. Tenkiller was impounded for flood control, and hydroelectric power by harnessing the power of its main inflow the Illinois river. Both the river and the lake are in the Cookson Hills of the Ozark Mountains arguably the prettiest and most visited part of Oklahoma. Additionally, Tenkiller is mostly a highland reservoir with clear water, rock bluffs and  rocky banks lined with buck brush. Smallmouth bass, Spotted bass, and the ole largy will all be huge players in this early fall event.   

Anglers competing in this tournament may launch from any public access from US - 62 Bridge on the Illinois River down to the Dam. This is a large playing field giving an expected large angling field space and areas all to themselves. The big question is: How many inches will it take to win this tournament? 75" or close to the 90" line? The OKA visited Tenkiller back in April of 2018 with angler Tou Vue taking the top spot with 87.25", and Big Bass being won by Josh Dewberry with a 20.25". 27 anglers caught a limit for that event with 27th place having 63.25". 

The title sponsor for OKA Event #8 is Nabatak Outdoors Inc. in Claremore, Oklahoma. Nabatak sells everything bass fishing related as well as live bait. They service anglers who are heading out east on Highway 20 and have donated many prizes for this tournament to be  raffled out to anglers present at the awards beginning at 3:30 PM. OKA Event # 2 Recap: Barham wins at the end

OKA event #2 has concluded and as always the weather and fishing does its best to not cooperate. Anglers experienced low temperatures, intense fog, high winds, muddy water, and post cold front bass. However, top anglers always find a way to catch em' and put a 5-fish limit together. Out of 66 anglers only 116 bass were scored. Moreover, Only 9 anglers were able to fill the limit of 5 bass. As the saying goes, its called fishing and not catching for a reason. Nevertheless, someone always rises to the top to cash out the top payout.  Angler Chance Barham was born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma and has been fishing since he could walk. Barham has only been kayak fishing for the last year when he discovered Greg Blanchard's  kayak fishing channel on Youtube. Barham fished at Hominy Lake and used a green pumpkin Senko with the tip dipped in garlic chartreuse and dead-sticked it all day. 2021 OKA POWER Rankings, AOY, NOY and Much More

The 2021 OKA season is upon us and if you thought the 2020 trail events were a big deal just wait until you see what we got going on in 2021! As normal the OKA trail will crisscross the great regions of this state with a large pool of talented anglers in tow. Last season the OKA came out with its inaugural Power Rankings listing the top 15 anglers who are on the rise for the upcoming season. With the record attendance of 2020 the OKA has decided to expand the PWR Rankings to the top 25. HOW and Why

Last weekend the Oklahoma Kayak Anglers hosted a 2-day online charity tournament named the Freedom Fighters online charity fundraiser. This event was a benefit tournament with all proceeds donated to Heroes on the Water Northeastern Oklahoma Chapter. The OKA donated $585 to HOW NEO Chapter. "We are very appreciative of the donation to our chapter. It will be used to update gear and chapter operations" - Casey Fugett - Chapter Coordinator.  Heroes on the Water is a veterans and first responder organization whose mission is to help warriors relax, rehabilitate and reintegrate through kayak fishing and the outdoors . HOW  has chapters all across the United States, as well as Australia and the United Kingdom. When choosing to partner with HOW Northeastern Oklahoma Chapter, veteran and OKA board member Luke Aryan had this to say: "I have spent my entire life fishing in some way shape or form, and it helped me and continues to help me cope with stress and day to day life....
