Let me start off with a little bit of a hot take: The state of Oklahoma has arguably the best public waters for bass fishing in this region of the country and the same can be said about its kayak anglers. Now as you know I am not a talking head on ESPN or CNN trying to grab you with a sound bite. For evidence look no further than our 2 - month online events. It takes 115 - 116", to win 1st place and 100" doesn't even get you in the top 10. For comparison take World renown bass fishing state Florida for example. I took a peek at their last 2 KBF State Challenge tournaments for July, and August respectively. The July State Challenge took 115.50" to win 1st place and had 7 bass measured over 23". August saw a 108.50" winning total with 2 bass measuring over 24" and a total of 4 measuring over 23". The OKA Dog Days totals are as follows: 115.75" to win, 12 anglers measuring over 100", 14 bass measured over 23", and 3 of which over 24". Now I know what you might be saying: "Florida had 2 less weeks to compile their stringers" and that is true. However, if our numbers are comparable or even slightly better than a bass fishing state such as Florida then what does that say about us when we are compared to states such as Kansas, Arkansas, Missouri, Louisiana, and yes even you Texas.
Now back to the recap version of this blog. The angler at the center of all this good bass fishing is Luke Aryan. Luke is no stranger to the top of the leader board as he light up the standings during the Fundraiser at Sooner lake notching 105.25" , when many others struggled to catch a fish. Luke also won the Ardmore City Lakes event with a measly 88.75". Aryan is a self proclaimed calculated angler who puts a huge priority on research before the kayak is launched. " I find that if you are just casting without a purpose you might as well pack it up. Gotta fish with a purpose." Aryan constantly looks for maps, articles, and any other piece of intel he can find on a body of water before he begins his casting. On catching the 24.75" that won Big Bass of the tournament and anchored his 115.75" stringer Aryan had this to say: " I had a really good day so far so I knew it was big (the 24.75" bass) when she went out to deeper water clear of structure I knew she was mine as long as I played her correctly. When I netted her it was a great feeling, I just laughed at how huge she was." Great fish Luke!
With only OKA Event # 8 at Lake Tenkiller Presented by Nabatak Outdoors Inc remaining the AOY, and NOY as well as State Championship qualification races will certainty be decided at this event. Moreover the chance to catch a giant smallmouth will bring anglers from all over the state! Hope to see everyone there, and tight lines!
