Sooner Lake Recap: Aryan Sends Standings to the Moon

The Oklahoma Kayak Anglers have completed the first event of the 2020 season, the Fundraiser at Sooner Lake. The fundraising event was wildly successful with 40 anglers competing, raising a total of $1,600 for the 2020 season. As stated earlier items that will be purchased with these funds will be: tournament banners, trophies, lake tournament application fees, and the Angler of the Year prize of $1,000. The OKA is now able to raise the tournament payout from 65% to 80% which is outstanding and exciting news. Anglers who place in the top 3 of an event will now have the chance at good payouts for well attended events.

The Fundraiser at Sooner Lake was not only a record breaking event on the fundraising side but for the fishing as well. OKA angler and current # 1 ranked Luke Aryan sent the competition a message by dropping 105.25" on the field. While the rest of the anglers were struggling to catch a keeper, Aryan set a new OKA single day stringer for a live event. Aryan caught only 5 fish but all fish came in a specific feeding window on a specific place. "I caught all my fish on an Alabama rig in about 10-20ft of water on rocks around 12 ft." This stringer may of come as a surprise to many but the capability of Sooner Lake coupled with the proximity to the full moon laid the ground work for Aryan to do what he did! 

As the fishing season starts to near the OKA and anglers are excited as ever for the 2020 season to begin. Listening, talking, and hearing anglers at the boat ramp this weekend is a big part of the excitement. Seeing new and old faces, talking strategies and new ideas, hearing new techniques and old standbys shows that OKA anglers are ready for 2020.

OKA Event # 2 Recap: Barham wins at the end

OKA event #2 has concluded and as always the weather and fishing does its best to not cooperate. Anglers experienced low temperatures, intense fog, high winds, muddy water, and post cold front bass. However, top anglers always find a way to catch em' and put a 5-fish limit together. Out of 66 anglers only 116 bass were scored. Moreover, Only 9 anglers were able to fill the limit of 5 bass. As the saying goes, its called fishing and not catching for a reason. Nevertheless, someone always rises to the top to cash out the top payout.  Angler Chance Barham was born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma and has been fishing since he could walk. 2021 OKA POWER Rankings, AOY, NOY and Much More

The 2021 OKA season is upon us and if you thought the 2020 trail events were a big deal just wait until you see what we got going on in 2021! As normal the OKA trail will crisscross the great regions of this state with a large pool of talented anglers in tow. Last season the OKA came out with its inaugural Power Rankings listing the top 15 anglers who are on the rise for the upcoming season. With the record attendance of 2020 the OKA has decided to expand the PWR Rankings to the top 25. The 4 Stages Of A Kayak Tournament With Jason Ray

 By Jason Ray Stage 1: Prep Prepping for a tournament is a time that I really enjoy. This usually happens the week before the tournament for me. I spend at least an hour each night before the tournament going through my gear checking line and fine tuning lures.  I also take this time to study the lake especially if I cant pre-fish or if I haven't fished it in the past. I go to Google maps and check the satellite images to find the part of the lake that best suits my style of fishing. Now is also a time to check the weather for the week end and prep for rain, wind or long hot days. The day before is when I get all my snacks and water ready to go. The night before the tournament is always the hardest for me because I'm so excited to go and compete I usually get about two hours of sleep.
