Sooner Lake Fundraiser, Mathematics and Sooner Lake Preview

The Oklahoma Kayak Anglers will be hosting a fundraising tournament February 8th and 9th at Sooner Lake. Proceeds will benefit the OKA general fund for the 2020 season. Costs that will be paid for through this tournament are as follows: Lake tournament fees, plaques and trophies, sponsorship banners, door prizes and yearly website payments. This idea came from new OKA President Avery Metcalf. "If we as an organization can raise funds for direct operating costs that we have year in and year out, we will have the opportunity to raise the tournament payout structure to 80 - 90 %." said Metcalf. "Paying 80 - 90 % would be a huge plus for anglers placing in the top 10 % of the field of a given tournament." The OKA has also decided to raise the tournament entry fee from 35$ to 45$ with 5$ of that fee going to Tourneyx per angler per tournament. This decision was based on 51% of anglers voting to raise the entry fee.  An example of the new payout structure at  80% of 40$ p

The OKA to send anglers to Kayak Bass Fishings biggest stage

Oklahoma Kayak Anglers received an exciting and unexpected message from Joe Haubenreich, Kayak Bass Fishing's creative service director. The email extended 4 National Championship invites to OKA anglers. The surprise came after the OKA decided to become a KBF member organization once again. It was originally thought that NC invites would not be available until the 2020 season began. The stipulations were for 3 OKA anglers and 1 board member to receive invites. Anglers were chosen by the 2019 Angler of the Year standings and spots rolled down as anglers declined their invitations. Anglers who accepted invites are as follows: Josh Barlow, Josh Crosby, Jon Queen, and board member Danny Bowen. Additional OKA anglers attending the KBF NC are Jason Ray, Luke Aryan, and Mike Ring. Both Ray and Ring qualified through the State Challenge Series and Aryan through the One Night Stand Online Event. The Kayak Bass Fishing National Championship presented by Torqeedo will be held on legendary A

HOW and Why

Last weekend the Oklahoma Kayak Anglers hosted a 2-day online charity tournament named the Freedom Fighters online charity fundraiser. This event was a benefit tournament with all proceeds donated to Heroes on the Water Northeastern Oklahoma Chapter. The OKA donated $585 to HOW NEO Chapter. "We are very appreciative of the donation to our chapter. It will be used to update gear and chapter operations" - Casey Fugett - Chapter Coordinator.  Heroes on the Water is a veterans and first responder organization whose mission is to help warriors relax, rehabilitate and reintegrate through kayak fishing and the outdoors . HOW  has chapters all across the United States, as well as Australia and the United Kingdom. When choosing to partner with HOW Northeastern Oklahoma Chapter, veteran and OKA board member Luke Aryan had this to say: "I have spent my entire life fishing in some way shape or form, and it helped me and continues to help me cope with stress and day to day life.

Oklahoma Kayak Anglers 2019 Season in Review

The Oklahoma Kayak Anglers 2019 season has come to a conclusion. Although there were some ups and downs this season it is clear the OKA ended on a high note! The State Championship invitational and the Hobie Bass Open Series on Lake Tenkiller made for a very busy September.  Feedback from both of these events from many anglers local, regional, and national were very congratulatory and impressed with organization of both events. With the State Championship and the Hobie BOS event in the rear view mirror.  The OKA looks forward to our Freedom Fighters online charity fundrasier and the 2020 season! Fishing and fellowship is what drives the Oklahoma Kayak Anglers throughout each and every season. The diverse landscape and abundance of fishable water that the state of Oklahoma has to offer is huge positive for anyone who enjoys the outdoors and catching fish. I personally love the competitive kayak fishing game, all of it. Map study, research, rigging tackle, re-rigging tackle, traveling,

Big Hill, Big Champs

Cherryvale, Kansas This past weekend several Anglers from the Oklahoma Kayak Anglers competed in the King of the Hill tournament hosted by North East Kansas Kayak Anglers. This event is on Big Hill resivoir located in SE Kansas nestled in rolling foothills and dense forests. The rules of the game were simple, the best 3 finishers from a given club score points based on their total inches caught that day. The club with the most inches takes home the Traveling Trophy!  Anglers from the OKA who competed were: Jeff Her, Luke Aryan, Jon Queen, Ryan Hendricks, Jason Ray and Josh Barlow. The scoring anglers for the OKA were Josh Barlow - 6th place with 76.25", Jason Ray - 7th place with 75.00" and Jon Queen - 8th Place 73.75".  Normally anglers who have certain success will be tight lipped about how and when they caught their fish. This is not the case with these fellas, they targeted isolated trees with shad pattern moving baits early in the morning and moved to slower movin
